How to improve you look on Zoom and other online video conferencing platforms.

  1. During the meeting: Make sure all other applications are closed, ie email, web browser. Have good internet performance. 15mbs with less than 60ms latency. www.fast.com to test.
  2. Hardware: Web camera should be 720P resolution to give a sharp image. USB web cameras usually give a much better image quality than laptop cameras.
  3. Lighting: Have a good front lighting, you should have 2x more front light than backlight. Avoid having a window or bright light behind you.
  4. Background: Use a virtual background, preferably a company logo or image. Make sure your clothing is much darker or lighter than the wall behind you, and a plain wall is best.  Note: For Zoom virtual background you must have at least a 4th gen intel i7 CPU or 7th Gen intel i5 CPU (example i7-4xxx or -i5-7xxxx) or equivalent performance CPU.
  5. Audio: Make sure you in a quite room. Use a headset with noise cancelling microphone for better audio quality and volume.
  6. Test your virtual meeting beforehand. With Zoom, open the app and go to settings (gear) to test video and audio.

How to create a disk image: Disk images are a copy of your entire hard drive. You will see in the video which partitions to select. I suggest to select all of them, unless you have a separate data partition that is already backed up.
